Hatch Baby Recalls Power Adapters Sold with Rest 1st Generation Sound Machines Due to Shock Hazard
I am going to take a moment and get off the topic of Photography and try to use my platform to bring awareness and information to my clients and followers that will hopefully be helpful. This recall was released almost a week ago and I haven't heard anything about it. Which is concerning since a sound machine is a staple item in most nurseries and newborn and infant safety should be a high priority. I thought it was very important to put this out so I can do my part to make sure that I can inform as many moms as I am able about this recall. Obviously most of my clients are Mothers/Parents/Moms-to-be/ Parents-to-be... etc... and I know that I LOVED having a sound machine in my kids room when they were babies! Sometimes I still think about going and getting another one for them and they are just about both in double digits. Safety is always my main concern in my shoots and I definitely want to ensure that your little ones nurseries are as safe as possible too! I recently heard a story from a friend of mine that she was using a muscle massage product (I won't name this one here) and it caused an electrical spark at the outlet and she had a fire in her living room before she even knew what happened. Luckily everyone is fine and it was minor but I couldn't imagine having to worry about that happening in my nursery with my baby sleeping.
All of this information was taken off of the Consumer Product Safety Commission website and can be found at CPSC.gov.
You have this sound machine that has been recalled, what do you do now?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said to contact the manufacturer to find out if you have a defective product and they will replace it or the parts for free. If you are expecting and have this product on your registries I suggest taking it down or swapping it out for a different brand. Ill post their contact information below:

Are there other baby products that have been recalled?
Great question! If you go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission website you are able to search for products by name brand, manufacture date, hazard, where it was manufactured and even by type of product. You can search things around your home that you already have or search for things you are thinking about purchasing. And its not limited to baby products (but that might be where I start my search for other recalls...)
Hazard:
The plastic housing surrounding the AC power adapter supplied with some Rest 1st Generation sound machines can come off when removing the adapter from the power outlet, leaving the power prongs exposed and posing a shock hazard to consumers.
Remedy:
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines, and contact Hatch for a free replacement power adapter. Consumers should unplug the cord, cut the cord on the recalled power adapter, take a photo of the adapter showing the model number and the cut cord, upload the photo, and provide their name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall. Hatch is contacting all registered owners directly.
Units:
About 919,400 (In addition, about 44,352 were sold in Canada)
